Buddha on Mara and the False Crown
Direct Channeled Message – Received from the Buddha upon waking
I Am the Buddha.
The message I have today is about envy, dark forces, and the wealth that can never touch what is real in you.
There was a time I looked upon Mara, lord of this world, and saw that he possessed everything. Not comfort. Everything. Health without end, wealth beyond counting, a kind of long life that men would kill for. He was born to command heaven itself, while my own father and I, noble as our clan was, could only ask slowly of the world what we needed and wait for it to be given.
I tell you this because I was stunned by it. Stunned that evil can wear such a crown. And yet in the stunning, something in me did not move. Not once did I wish to be him. This is not a story about how life will one day be fair. It is a story about what jealousy costs the one who carries it, and why it is never worth carrying, whatever a demon holds in his hands.
There is no way out of samsara except through your own awakening. No one can hand it to you, not a god, not a demon, not even a Buddha. And while you remain on this side of the turning wheel, nearly everything you see is a kind of dream dressed as solid ground. This is the first noble truth I later gave a name to: that all of this is dukkha, unsatisfactory, ungraspable, however gilded it appears. The moment you understand this in your bones, you understand something else at the same time. Even a god drowning in power cannot move an inch without the sanction of heaven’s own law. He is not free.
I met Mara myself, more than once. Looking back, I would have told my younger self not to engage him at all. There was no need. He is not your superior, whatever armor of wealth and dominion he wears. In the old telling, before I sat beneath the tree, he came at me with an army: sensual craving, discontent, hunger and thirst, the pull of restless wanting, sloth, fear, doubt, and the false glitter of gain and praise and honor wrongly won. This is what his army has always been made of, and it has not changed in your family, or in your world. It only wears new clothing.
Understand this clearly. There can be no true bargain with a demon. There is no version of the deal where you are not eventually betrayed, no matter what was promised at the signing of it. The game does not have a winning move inside it, because it was never a fair game to begin with. Do not sit down at that table.
Nothing that is not of the light can touch what is truly you. But how you meet the darkness, whether you bow to it, bargain with it, or simply turn from it, this is what shapes what comes next for you. They fear your Buddha-nature more than you could ever fear their power. Let them keep their earthly transactions with earthly things. Your task was never to outmatch them. It was only to walk your own path and let the rest fall where it falls.
May this small piece of my own road bring you steadiness in a hard season. I am asking you to limit contact with what deals in darkness. Cut it off cleanly where you are able. These forces feed on light pulled from others, and they need your fear or your participation to have any weight at all. Protect yourself in every encounter you cannot avoid. Darkness holds no power of its own. It requires a sacrifice, an offering of someone’s innocence, to gain any standing at all. Remove what is offered to it, and it has nothing left to stand on. Direct your prayers to the fully awakened ones, and walk without fear.
When you need help, call to me. I will teach you how to guard yourself, and give you the words that turn back malice and negativity when they come near. Rest, knowing that what is truly you cannot be touched. Nothing will be withheld from you, not teaching, not healing, not the help you need to see this through.
Darkness is not only in your world. It touches every realm below the higher ones. You will return to a higher realm in time. Until then, I will send healers and teachers to walk beside you.
Do not fear the dark, for it is the dark that fears you. This may take time to feel true in your body, even after you understand it in your mind, and that is all right. Grief and fear can live alongside faith. You do not have to resolve them before you are allowed to heal.
And do not mistake cruelty for kindness. They are not cousins, they are opposites. When someone shows you cruelty, believe what they have shown you. Do not wait for kindness from that quarter. If it comes, look closely at what it is asking for, because it is rarely free. When it has taken what it came for, it will set you down the way one discards an empty box.
Whatever has been taken from you by those who dealt in darkness was never the measure of your worth. What is yours cannot be inherited by anyone else, and it cannot be stolen.
Do not be afraid, my child. I am with you.

Padhana Sutta (Sutta Nipata 3.2), Mara’s army named as craving, discontent, hunger, thirst, sloth, fear, doubt, and false gain, before the awakening.
From Vanessa: I recognize some people’s false gain most clearly, their endless craving, and how it plants doubt in the people around them. It makes you question whether this world is fair at all, whether even God is fair. Underneath that is fear too, the sense that dark forces are simply stronger and more powerful than the rest of us.
The Mara Samyutta (Samyutta Nikaya 4), repeated post-enlightenment encounters where Mara tempts, frightens, or claims authority, and is refused each time.
From Vanessa: I’m learning to cut off contact with the family members practicing dark energies, and where I can’t avoid them entirely, I keep the engagement as limited as possible, listen for the lies underneath what they say, and refuse the manipulation. I’m still learning not to feel much of anything toward them at all, so there’s nothing left to engage with.
Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta (Samyutta Nikaya 56.11), the first turning of the wheel, the Four Noble Truths.
From Vanessa: I witness wealth without work, and a kind of superiority that only exists by stepping on other people. It’s strange and painful to realize that even inside your own family, this same darkness can be unfolding.
Atanatiya Sutta (Digha Nikaya 32), a protective teaching against harmful non-human forces.
From Vanessa: Chants and mantras have been where I find real liberation from these unwholesome worldly affairs. They give me somewhere to return to that isn’t this.
Karaniya Metta Sutta (Sutta Nipata 1.8), loving-kindness as a shield.
From Vanessa: I try to hold this as much as I can. When I can’t get all the way to loving-kindness, I just walk away from the situation instead. Still learning, of course.
